IDRISI Andes

IDRISI Andes software system is the 15th release of the IDRISI geoanalytic and image processing system. Developed by Clark Labs, a not-for-profit organization within the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University, U.S.A., this software system offers the most extensive analytical suite of any software system in the geoanalytical domain.

Built by researchers for researchers, IDRISI is a professional level tool that respresents the outcome of one of the most extensive and sustained research and development efforts in the industry, firmly grounded within a non-profit philosophy.

The following are among the new features:

idrisi_1_land change (21K)

Land Change Modeler for Ecological Sustainability

It includes such functions as:

  • Analyzing past land cover change
  • Modeling the potential for change
  • Predicting the implications of that change into the future
  • Assessing the implications of that change for biodiversity
  • Evaluating planning intervention for maintaining ecological sustainability
idrisi_2_classifiers (17K)

Classifiers and Machine Learning

Many of the classifiers fall into the realm of machine learning and neural networks. The new additions include:

  • Multi-layer perception
  • Kohenon's Self-organizing Feature Map (SOM)
  • Fuzzy ArtMap
  • Classification Tree Analysis
  • K-Means
  • K-Nearest Neighbour
idrisi_3_interface_display (21K)

Interface/Display Enhancements

Idrisi Explorer has been transformed from a file management utility to a major project management tool. Other display and interface enhancements include:

  • A new photo layer type
  • An enhanced Fly Through module
  • A revised Media Viewer
  • A new HISTO module
  • A new legend management tools
  • Enhanced north arrows
  • Enhanced map grid display options
  • Map display at a specific scale by changing the representative fraction
idrisi_4_general analytical (23K)

General Analytical Refinements

They include:

  • Acceptance of all data types in image processing routines
  • A new Multinominal Logistic Regression tool
  • A new time series analysis tool
  • Reverse transformation in the PCA module
  • A new Pansharpened module using three procedures: colour space transformation, principal components transformation, and local regression analysis
  • A new image transformation procedure based on the minimum noise fraction
  • Additional control variables in the RUNOFF module
  • A new SEDIMENTATION module to calibrate soil loss and deposition
  • An enhanced SEGMENT to produce an image of homogeneity
  • A new BREAKOUT module to create separate layers of each category in multi-category images and vector files
  • A revised CROSSTAB module to allow 3-way crosstabulation along with crosstabulation of fuzzy membership maps
  • Enhanced ROC and LOGISTICREG modules to permit faster processing
  • A new PROJECT to support reference systems based on the sinusoidal projection
  • A new THERMAL to work with any system and allow for emissivity correction
  • PATHWAY to allow simultaneous pathway determination from multiple targets
  • A revised TREND to calculate polynominal surface up to a ninth order
  • New import routines to support ASD hyperspectral radiometers and images based on the ECW format
